The Namibian Air Force ( English Namibian Air Force ) is the second largest branch of the Namibian Defense Force (NDF), but overall very small in terms of equipment and personnel. It was formally established on March 13, 2005.

The commander is Air Marshal Martin Phinehas , who has also been Chief of the Defense Force since April 1, 2020 .

Current equipment

The equipment includes some Hongdu JL-8 fighter jets from China and transport helicopters. In addition, China delivered some FT-7NGs in November 2006 and twelve Chengdu J-7s in 2008 . In February 2010, more FT-7 / F-7 aircraft were handed over to the Air Force. In April 2012, the Air Force took over two Zhi-9 (Harbin Z-9) helicopters from the People's Republic of China and the two Alouette IIIs and one Lama, built under license in India . In February 2014, Namibia received twelve Alouette III helicopters from South Africa as a friendly gesture.
