The Namibian army ( English Namibian Army ) is by far the largest armed force of the Namibian Defense Force . Major General Tomas Hamunyela has been in command since 2014 .

There is close cooperation with the German Bundeswehr within the framework of an advisory group stationed in Namibia.

A large part of the vehicle stock comes from the former Soviet Union , with armored vehicles also being designed and built in Namibia. The Windhoeker Maschinenfabrik is primarily responsible for this. The latest acquisition is the Agrale Marruá , which went into service in 2015 . In January 2017 it was announced that by the end of March [date] eight RG-32M with Self Defense Remotely Operated Weapon (SDROW) by the South African company Denel Vehicle Systems to be delivered.
