The Eros Airport ( english Eros Airport , officially Windhoek (Eros) Airport ) is the national airport of the Namibian capital Windhoek . The main office of the Namibian State Aviation Academy Namibian Aviation Training Academy (NATA) is also located at Eros Airport .

Surname

According to some sources, the airport is said to have been named JG Strijdom after Johannes Gerhardus Strijdom in the 1950s (possibly until the 1960s) . In most sources, including the airport operator Namibia Airports Company , this name is used for today's (and only opened in 1985) Hosea Kutako International Airport .

air traffic

Eros is the airport with the most flight movements in Namibia. It is mainly used by regional scheduled flights operated by the state-owned Air Namibia , as well as private pilots or charter airlines with smaller aircraft. Since the flight year 2002/2003 the number of passengers at the airport has moved between almost 100,000 (2002/03) and 65,000 (2009/10).

Under visual flight conditions , Eros can also be used as an alternate airport for Hosea Kutako International Airport , but only aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 737 can land in Eros.

Due to the poor condition of the runway , Air Namibia threatened to suspend flight operations to and from Eros in February 2019.

Airlines and connections

Air Namibia offers - mostly daily - flights to Ondangwa , Mpacha ( Katima Mulilo ) and Rundu . Since the end of July 2019, there have also been flights from here to Oranjemund and Lüderitz . Oranjemund has also been served by FlyWestair since July 2019 .

Westair Aviation flies Eros in charter traffic, Wilderness Air flies daily to all accommodations of the operator group Wilderness Safaris in many parts of Namibia.
