Volksgarten Osterfeld

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Volksgarten Osterfeld in Oberhausen is bounded by the Teutoburgerstrasse, Kapellenstrasse and Margelstrasse. It has a size of 16 hectares and belongs to the Osterfeld district. About half of the area consists of oak and mixed forests , plus a park with lawns, horticultural areas and play areas.

The Friesenhügel near the park is an urban sports facility with a sports field and a multi-purpose hall. This serves the Turnerbund Osterfeld as a training area. There is a tennis club with three outdoor courts on Kapellenstrasse.

When the Volksgarten was built around 1908 in the immediate vicinity of the Jacobi colliery and the Osterfeld colliery , an excursion restaurant was taken into account that is now used as a hotel complex (which is currently empty).
