Julius-Meinl-Gasse elementary school
The elementary school Julius Meinl-Gasse is a primary school in the 16th Viennese district Ottakring . Over 300 children are taught by 30 teachers in 13 year classes. The school building is under monument protection ( list entry ).
Architecture and buildings
The school building is built in the local style and is a listed building. Chopstones decorate the facade. The house has 3 floors with 13 classrooms, a library, a gym, two work rooms and a large school yard with a cage sports field for football and basketball.
On each floor there is a tiled drinking fountain with toads as gargoyles. That gave the school the nickname "Krotenschul".
history
Today's elementary school was opened on September 16, 1913 at Nauseagasse 49 as a girls' school. On the opposite side of the school yard, the boys' school was built in Odoakergasse. The school yard is shared by both schools. In winter, the school yard was previously used as an ice rink.
