Wolfram Koppen

Wolfram Koppen (born February 1, 1939 in Hamburg ) is a former German judoka who was fifth in the 1972 Olympics.

Athletic career

The 1.68 m tall Wolfram Koppen fought in the lightweight, the weight class up to 63 kilograms. The judoka from the Turnerbund Hamburg-Eilbeck was German champion in 1968 and 1972. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he defeated the Italian Giuseppe Tommasi in the first round by referee decision ( Yusei-gachi ). In the second round he defeated the Puerto Rican Roberto Pacheco after 2:15 minutes . In the semifinals of his pool group Koppen met Karl-Heinz Werner from the GDR and won by a referee decision. In the pool final he was defeated by the Japanese Takao Kawaguchi after 4:44 minutes. Then Koppen was defeated in the consolation round to the Mongolian Bachaawaagiin Bujadaa after 2:57 minutes and thus missed the semi-finals.
