Volta da Ascension

The Volta Ciclista da Ascension is a former Spanish cycling race .

The stage race took place around the city of Santiago de Compostela in the autonomous community of Galicia . From 1975 to 1988 it was held annually as an amateur event. In the first two years it was a purely team competition, that is, there was no overall individual classification. Between 1989 and 2006 the race took place only once in 1991, followed by a 15-year break.

From 2007 to 2009 the event was held annually, initially in 2007 as a national race. Since 2008 the tour has been part of the UCI Europe Tour racing series, where it is classified in category 2.2.
