Von Braun is an impact crater on the northwestern edge of the front of the moon , on the western edge of Oceanus Procellarum . To the northwest lies the Gerard crater , and to the southwest lies the Lavoisier crater .

Like the Lavoisier E crater , which touches the western edge of von Braun, the interior of von Braun also has the fracture structures of a floor-fractured crater . The crater rim is heavily eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1994 after the German-American rocket engineer Wernher von Braun . Previously, the crater was designated Lavoisier D .
