Gerard is an impact crater on the extreme northwestern edge of the lunar front , north of the Braun and Lavoisier craters , on the western edge of Oceanus Procellarum . The crater wall is very badly eroded and partially covered by secondary craters. To the northwest lie the two significantly larger, intermingled whale plains Gerard Q Inner and Gerard Q Outer .

On the western edge of Gerard Q Inner , the ridge system of the Rimae Gerard runs in a predominantly northerly direction through the Gerard Q Outer whale plain .
