A hoof was a measure of agricultural area.

history

The hooves expanded in front of the Steindammer Gate. The Schroetter map from 1802 shows these three Hufen districts ( Hufen , Vorderhufen and Mittelhufen ) still completely undeveloped and consisting only of meadows. Only the front hooves show a weak settlement along the road to Cranz . In 1885 the rural community of Vorderhufen, the Carolinenhof and Rathshof estate districts were incorporated into the city.

The north station , the freight yard, the Samlandbahn AG , the German East Fair , the Chamber of Agriculture , the New Schützenhaus and the famous "Klopsakademie" were located in the so-called "Musicians' Quarter", where the streets were named after composers.
