The pre-apprenticeship is a one-year vocational preparation year (bridging offer). The pre-apprenticeship is aimed at young people who already know which direction they want, but are not yet ready for an apprenticeship for various reasons (e.g. language deficits or personal maturity). The aim of the pre-apprenticeship is to take on the desired profession in the first year of apprenticeship. The training takes place in the company and in the vocational school. An apprenticeship contract is concluded for the preliminary apprenticeship.
In principle, the pre-apprenticeship is possible in all professions. Specifically, it offers logistics, retail, health and others.
The vocational school is also part of the pre- apprenticeship . The subjects are mainly German, mathematics and general education. The scope is 1 or 2 days per week (depending on the canton).
The minimum age is 15 years, the maximum age 21.
Pre-lectures are u. a. offered in Zurich, Basel, Solothurn and St.Gallen. They were abolished in Aargau.
In some cantons (e.g. Bern), preliminary courses are also offered for adults.
Austria
In Austria, the pre-apprenticeship was introduced in 1998 for disadvantaged young people. Specifically, the content of the first year of a regular apprenticeship was extended to a period of two to three years. With the introduction of the integrative vocational training law on September 1, 2003, it was abolished again.
