The Vortex Col (English for vertebral saddle ) is a mountain pass in the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the western Asgard Range it leads from the polar plateau to the southern flank of the Upper Wright Glacier .
The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee made the descriptive naming. It is named after the fact that the snow-laden clouds that have been driven up from the polar plateau are whirled around like a funnel under the distraction of Mount Fleming .
