Vortex Iceland (of English vortex , swirl, swirl ' ) is a 800 m long and up to 245 m high island in the northeastern part of the Prince Gustav Channel front of south side of Trinity Peninsula at the northern end of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is about 3 km west-southwest of Corry Island .
The first sighting probably goes back to participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld . The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) mapped them in August 1945 and made the designation. It is named after the fact that the FIDS surveying work was hindered by a hurricane .
