Vuorineuvos
Vuorineuvos ( Swedish bergsråd ; German about Bergberater ) is a Finnish honorary title awarded by the President of the Republic of Finland to leading personalities from industry and trade . The title is honorary and does not entail any responsibility or privilege. All Finnish titles are not hereditary. The only equal title is Valtioneuvos .
Foundation and history
The Vuorineuvos title originated in Sweden in the late 18th century when mining played an important role in the economy, including in Swedish Finland . During this time five Finns received the title. From 1809 to 1917 another 19 titles were awarded in the semi-autonomous, Russian-ruled Grand Duchy of Finland . The first recipient of the title in modern and independent Finland was Fridolf Hisinger on July 17, 1918. The award of the title has not only developed in mining, but also in other industries and in commerce. By 2010 the title was given to 295 people.
Holders of the title are usually CEOs of large companies.
Rejection of the title
Antti Ahlström , the founder of Ahlstrom ; Jorma Ollila , former CEO of Nokia , and Pekka Herlin of KONE have rejected the title for personal reasons.
