Jorma Jaakko Ollila (born August 15, 1950 in Seinäjoki ) was chairman and CEO of the Finnish telecommunications group Nokia . He has been with Nokia since 1985. He became President and CEO of Nokia in 1992, a member of the Nokia Board of Directors in 1995 and Chairman and CEO in 1999. On June 1, 2006, he handed over the office to Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo .

In 1992, the year Jorma Ollila was promoted to CEO, Nokia manufactured GSM mobile phones for the first time. Under his leadership, the rubber, cable and television equipment production was sold in 1994, and the company concentrated entirely on telecommunications, the first signs of an incipient boom appeared. Ollila, head of the mobile communications division, rose to become CEO, and in the same year Nokia introduced the first GSM mobile phone, the "Talkman".

On August 1, 2005, Nokia announced that Jorma Ollila would be replaced by Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo , head of the Nokia cell phone division, on June 1, 2006 , but would continue to be available as non-executive chairman of the company.

On August 4, 2005, the Royal Dutch Shell in London appointed Jorma Ollila as Non-Executive Chairman with effect from June 1, 2006.

Ollila is married to Liisa Annikki and has three children with her (Jaakko, Anna and Matti). After his education at Atlantic College , he received degrees as Master of Political Science (1976, University of Helsinki ), Master of Economics (1978, London School of Economics ) and as a Master of Engineering (1981, Helsinki University of Technology ). He is a two-time Dr. honorary (1995, University of Helsinki; 1998 Helsinki University of Technology).

Before joining Nokia, Ollila worked for Citibank from 1978 to 1985 .

Ollila is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Conferences and was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Wise Men on the Future of Europe .

In 2006 he was voted European Manager of the Year . As early as 2000, he was awarded the Max Schmidheiny Foundation's Freedom Prize as part of the St. Gallen Symposium .
