Veritas File System (short: VxFS , the operating system HP-UX as JFS or OJFS referred, not to be confused with the journaled file system for AIX and Linux) is a commercial system software for Unix , which has been available since the 1991st The Veritas File System is a journaling file system that can limit the risk of data loss and increase the speed of data integrity checking . The software is mainly used on large file servers and database servers and is considered to be the first commercial journaling file system ever.
VxFS is a further development of UFS and was developed from 1990 by Veritas Software on behalf of AT&T . Since the takeover of Veritas in 2004, the software has been developed and distributed by Symantec . VxFS is available for various Unix derivatives , such as Sun Solaris or HP-UX , but also for Linux . The software is included in the Veritas Storage Foundation bundle . A Windows version is also available, it is offered as Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows .
From version 5.0 a free version is also available under the name Veritas Storage Foundation Basic with a limited range of functions.
