Voter (telecommunications)
A selector (ger .: selector, switch ) is in the switching technology a coupling device within switching equipment . The term is mainly used for the historical electromechanical switching technology, it is no longer used in digital switching technology. The selector consists of a constructive combination of coupling points to form a coupling row , which allows an input to be connected to one of several outputs.
Depending on the switching task, a distinction is made in electromechanical dialing systems:
- Call searcher to concentrate the message traffic (reverse search for the source connection)
- Selection for branching the message traffic (connection to a free group selector)
- Group selector for branching the message traffic (direction selection)
- Line selector to expand the message traffic (last dial level to determine the destination connection)
Typical voters (in historical order) Strowger switch , case selector , EMD-selector and noble metal motor coordinates selector .
