The Wörther See is an artificially created lake in the municipality of Wörth an der Isar in the Landshut district . The southern third, however, belongs to the community of Niederviehbach in the Dingolfing-Landau district .
The lake is about 37.7 hectares. It was used for gravel extraction for 20 years and was expanded into a leisure facility in 1997. The lake is up to 20 meters deep.
In the western bay is the stationary water ski and wakeboard facility Wakelake (formerly Watazoo ) and to the south of it there is a 300 m sandy beach with a sunbathing area. 140 m east of the beach is a shoal with a diameter of around 20 meters with a depth of less than one meter, which is a popular target for swimmers. The shallow end is clearly visible on the aerial view and is characterized by a small floating buoy marked.
In the eastern part of the lake is the 750 m² large bird island , which is not allowed to be entered to protect breeding birds. Here gulls and terns can breed in peace. In 2012, a pair of flamingos was even observed.
