The Württembergische and Badische Versicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft was an insurance company , at its headquarters in Heilbronn had a long tradition. On December 1, 2009, Wüba became a brand of Chartis Europe SA , and since December 2012 AIG Europe .

The Württembergische Schiffahrts-Assecuranz-Gesellschaft zu Heilbronn was founded on October 16, 1837 as the predecessor of the insurance company of the 1950s. In the beginning, the insurance business was limited to inland shipping such as sea, river and canal transport. In 1853 the business was expanded to include inland transport, which required a permit from the then King of Württemberg. Since then, the insurance company Württembergische Transport-Versicherungsgesellschaft zu Heilbronn has been allowed to call itself . In 1939 the Heilbronner Versicherungsgesellschaft Württembergs merged with the Mannheimer Versicherungsgesellschaft Badens and henceforth operated under the name Württembergische und Badische Vereinigte Versicherungsgesellschaft Aktiengesellschaft .

In 1956, the marine insurance business was expanded to include motor vehicle insurance and property insurance. At the end of the 1950s, fire, burglary, tap water, glass and household contents insurance was also integrated into the Heilbronn insurance company. Liability and accident insurance was added in the 1970s, with inland goods business with trucks, trains or river boats, marine goods business via import and export, transport liability insurance in local and long-distance goods transport or forwarding and finally inland waterway transport could keep their central position in the insurance business.

WÜBA

In 1983 the insurance business was restructured to include brokerage and insurance brokerage, and the company was renamed WÜBA (Württembergische und Badische Versicherungs-AG). WÜBA belonged to Württembergische Versicherung AG . In the summer of 1993, Elektra insurance was taken over. At the end of 1998, Nord-Deutsche Versicherungs AG (Hamburg) and Neu Rotterdam Deutschland (Cologne) were taken over. At that time, WÜBA had around 840,000 contracts, 470,000 claims and 7,000 intermediaries. After these takeovers, debis introduced the uniform ICIS - Insurance Company Information System IT system. WÜBAnet, a new administration platform for independent brokers, was introduced on August 13, 2003.

In 2002 WÜBA belonged 55% to Württembergische Holding AG, 16% to Swiss Re Deutschland, 7.5% to Baden-Württembergische Bank , 7.5% to HypoVereinsbank AG and 14% to other banks. In 2004, marine and aviation insurance accounted for 33.91%, engineering insurance 12.51%, fire, property and other insurance 24.39%, accident insurance 12.68% and the rest of the insurance business WÜBA off.

At the end of January 2005, WÜBA was sold by Württembergische Versicherung AG to the US subsidiary JC Flowers & Co. LLC . At the WÜBA general meeting on May 25, 2005, JC Flowers decided to squeeze out the remaining shareholders. The cash compensation was 26 euros per WÜBA share.

In August 2006, WÜBA took over 100 percent of Deutsche Versicherungs- und Rückversicherungs-AG (DARAG) from AXA-Versicherungs AG (Cologne) with retroactive effect from January 1, 2006 . In June 2007, a merger of WÜBA and DARAG was planned.

In August 2007 it was sold to the American International Group (AIG) through the investment adviser of the Augur Capital Group . The final acquisition of WÜBA by AIG UK Holdings plc. took place on October 19, 2007. Since December 1, 2009, Wüba has been a brand of Chartis Europe SA , which emerged from AIG Europe in October 2009 . All stocks of WÜBA were transferred to Chartis Europe SA . Nothing should change for the Heilbronn location, where WÜBA last employed around 300 people. On December 1, 2012 Chartis Europe SA was merged with Chartis Europe Limited , which now operates as AIG Europe Limited .
