The Kiliansdom in Würzburg

The Würzburger Domsingknaben are a boys' choir from Würzburg in Bavaria and are among the most traditional German cathedral choirs. The long tradition of boys' choir singing at Würzburg Cathedral probably goes back to the time when the diocese was founded in 742. This tradition was lost in the early 19th century.

Since their re-establishment in 1961, the Würzburger Domsingknaben have had a permanent place in the cathedral's liturgy and have become an important part of the cultural life of the city and the region. The boys and young men receive excellent and free vocal training at the Würzburg Cathedral. At the same time, they find a community in which Christian values shape musical and social interaction. To awaken people's sensitivity to music and the values of the Christian community - this principle has guided all activities of Würzburg Cathedral Music for fifty years.

Concert tours have taken the Würzburger Domsingknaben to Australia, North America, South Africa, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy and Austria.

The Würzburger Domsingknaben are a member of the German Choir Association Pueri Cantores .

On February 6, 2011, the active cathedral choir boys and a choir of alumni (including two representatives of the original choir from 1961) arranged a pontifical mass in Würzburg Cathedral, which was celebrated on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding. The Mass was performed by Charles-Marie Widor Opus 36 for two choirs and two organs. It was part of the two-day festival program, in which the sister of the founder Franz Fleckenstein and the former cathedral music director Siegfried Koesler also took part.
