The desert wheatear ( Oenanthe deserti ) is a bird in the flycatcher family (Muscicapidae).
description
It is characterized by its gray-black wings, the bright bend of the wings and the white fringes of the wing covers in the female. The tail is almost completely black; the rump is white. The male has a black throat in its splendid plumage, while it is pale brown in the female. The desert wheatear reaches a length of 14-16 cm.
distribution and habitat
The desert wheatear is found in northern Africa, the Middle East, and central Asia. He prefers the flat, open and dry areas of the deserts and semi-deserts. The nest is built in crevices or in caves in the ground. In Central Europe the species is a rare stray visitor.
