The wheatear ( Oenanthe ) are a songbird genus from the family of flycatchers (Muscicapidae). They are widespread in Eurasia and Africa; the "real" wheatear ( Oenanthe oenanthe ) also occurs in Alaska and Canada .

Wheatears are insectivorous birds of the open terrain. Many of the species are adapted to life in deserts or semi-deserts. They build their nests in rock crevices or abandoned animal lairs. The northern species are migratory birds that overwinter in Africa.

In many species there are strong sex-specific and seasonal differences in the color of the plumage . The most common are various light brown colors, white and black, with a few species also gray and rusty brown.
