The desert Raven ( Corvus ruficollis ) is a kind of the genus Corvus from the family of the crows (Corvidae). It looks very similar to the common raven and can hardly be distinguished from it in the wild.
Appearance
The desert raven is between 48 and 56 centimeters long and has a wingspan of up to 120 centimeters. It has a slender beak, which is often held at a slight downward angle when in flight. The bronze-brown neck is only recognizable up close. The brightly contrasting legs are often visible from below. The desert raven has a shorter tail and narrower hand wings than the common raven.
distribution and habitat
The breeding area of the desert raven extends over North Africa , the Arabian Peninsula to Central Asia . It lives in deserts , rocky wadis or on mountain slopes.
behavior
Desert ravens build their nests in tree tops, mostly in acacias or pistachios , otherwise in rock walls, on mud houses or masts; when they have no other choice, even on the floor. Since it is very shy and vigilant, it is often not possible to approach it so far that details of the color can be seen. He is an annual bird .
voice
Its call sounds like a crow "krri-uh" and is not as deep as that of the common raven, but rather reminiscent of the rook .
