In the center of the old town of Wazin is the fortress Gasr Wazin , built in 1482 (860 Hijra ) . The rectangular building had 360 rooms on 4 floors. It had a cistern in the middle and was also used as a granary . There are tunnels under the old town so that women could move through the city without encountering strange men.

During the civil war in Libya , the rebels took over the city on April 21, 2011. They also took control of the border crossing. The fighting that followed the reconquest on April 28th partially spread to Dahibah on the Tunisian side. The further situation is unclear: at the beginning of August 2011, Wazin should be under the control of the rebels again.
