The WCW Women's Cruiserweight Championship was a short-lived women's wrestling title from World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Like the WCW Women's Championship, which was also only active for a short time, it was a joint title with the Japanese women's league Gaea Japan . As with all wrestling titles, the title was given within a storyline .

The title was aimed at women cruiserweight wrestlers who, according to the statutes, should weigh 130 lbs. (about 58.967 kg). This corresponds to the welterweight in wrestling and the super featherweight in boxing, the cruiserweight does not exist for women in any sport.

To determine the first champion, a tournament was held with a total of four women. The first round took place at WCW Monday Nitro on March 31, 1997. There Toshie Uematsu was allowed to defeat her opponent Meiko Satomura . On April 1, 1997, the second round took place at a TV taping in Johnston City . There Malia Hosaka was allowed to defeat her opponent Sonoko Kato. The second semi-final was not broadcast. The final finally took place on April 7th as part of a WCW Monday nitro recording as a dark match . Here Tushie Uematsu was allowed to win the title. It was actually broadcast on April 19, 1997 on the WCW Main Event .

The title was never specifically promoted by WCW, the other two title changes took place at major Gaea events until the title was discontinued on April 3, 1998, when the partnership between WCW and Gaea Japan ended.
