WFPL ( Public Radio Partnership) is a non-commercial radio station based in Louisville , Kentucky . The station broadcasts a 24 hour message format on VHF 89.3 M Hz . WFPL is a member of Kentucky Public Radio and the flagship station of National Public Radio in Louisville . The station is licensed for an output of 21 k W.

WFPL is part of " Louisville Public Media " and was originally owned by the " Louisville Free Public Library ". When it started broadcasting in 1950, WFPL was the country's first library station.

The station now operates the Kentucky Public Radio network with four other stations .
