from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The water sports club Harle is a canoeing club from the Wittmund district of Altfunnixsiel . It is named after the Harle River , on which Altfunnixsiel lies. His athletes regularly take part in German championships, especially in the junior segment. One of the greatest successes of a club athlete was the junior runner-up in 1995 for Thilo Rothert.

history

The WSV Harle was founded on May 28, 1967 in what was then the "Harlehof" in Altfunnixsiel on the initiative of the Funnix municipal council. The trigger for this was that water sports enthusiasts from Wilhelmshaven and the north successfully organized a boat parade and regatta on the Harle at a village festival in 1966 . In the summer of 1967 the WSV bought three self-made wooden canoes from the neighboring BSC Burhafe. Polyester and folding boats were added later. Rolling chassis were built for transport. The boats were stored in the barn of the "Harlehof"; the training took place on the Harle. In August 1968 a new marina was put into operation; the association now had 108 members. On May 31, 1969, the boat house was handed over. In Altfunnixsiel the district championships of the Oldenburg / Ostfriesland association took place with over 100 boats.

With the completion of the shed extension in 1996, a boat workshop, storage facilities for hiking boats and space for boat trailers were created.

The club's own regattas are now international. In 2012, the world champion and Olympian Yvonne Schuring and the German champion Sabrina Hering took part in the regatta.
