Local compass

With "Lokalkompass.de" the WVW advertising papers started their own community in April 2010. Citizens from the core area of North Rhine-Westphalia report on the platform.

Anyone who registers as a citizen reporter can write on topics of their choice or upload photos. On the page, the articles are divided into different categories (latest, sport, culture, politics, advice, club life, people, events). Citizens reporters can create their own profile and set up groups that bring together various friends to form an interest group.

Lokalkompass.de sees itself as an open citizens' platform that thrives on mutual exchange.

In the administration of the portal, the local editors of the advertising paper have the task of looking after the local communities as moderators. Most read topics and particularly highlighted texts are printed in the print edition of the respective region. The portal is marketed within the WVW.

The platform was created as a white label solution for the citizen reporter portal “myheimat.de” with the support of WAZ NewMedia. As a subsidiary of the WAZ media group, WAZ NewMedia is responsible for their online and mobile activities. The core business includes the editorial operation and the further development of DerWesten, the internet portal of the WAZ media group for North Rhine-Westphalia.
