The scale is a Renaissance house in the town of Görlitz in eastern Upper Lusatia . It is located on the Untermarkt and is part of the so-called row in the middle of the square. The balance closes the line structurally on the southeast side.

The current building was built on an earlier Gothic basis, as can also be seen from a late Gothic vault spanning the entire ground floor . The ground floor probably dates from 1453. Building on the ground floor, the simple Renaissance building was built in 1600. The master builder was Jonas Roskopf, a descendant of the famous Renaissance master builder Wendel Roskopf the Elder. Ä. One of the pillars on the ground floor, on which the more expansive upper floors seem to rest, shows the image of Jonas Roßkopf with a circle above its Ionic capitals . On the other pillars enthroned, among other things, the images of the master mason Elias Ebermann with a ladle, the balance master Andreas Alert with a weight, a councilor, a fool and a couple in love. Inside there is a keystone with the name Bartholomäus Scultetus and the year 1600.

Goods arriving in the city were once registered, assessed and cleared in the Libra. The excise was placed in the balance until 1823. The trade association founded in 1830 then met in the premises and used it for exhibitions until they moved into the Humboldthaus , which was completed in 1871 .

During the early years of the GDR , the building was used by a socialist youth organization - the station for young technicians . The building was renovated between 1978 and 1980.
