Rocking stone from Boscartus

The rocking stone of Boscartus ( French Pierre branlante , also called pierre tournante, pierre tournoise, pierre tournisse, pierre tremblante or pierre-qui-vire ) is one of over 30 rocking stones in France . It stands between Boscartus and Lavaud in the Bois du Rat in the Monts de Blond in Cieux near Bellac in the north of the Haute-Vienne department .

Before Boscartus, a signposted path leads to the south-sloping, 120-tonne granite block of 45 m³, which a push of the hand wiggles from east to west. It is said to have previously served as a place of justice. If a defendant managed to move him, he was acquitted. The term Pierre branlante also describes stones which, according to tradition, move on certain days or on certain nights of the year.
