The Wadi el-Hudi is located in the south of Egypt , about 35 km southeast of Aswan . It is a wadi , in the region of which amethyst , but also other raw materials, were mined, particularly in the Middle Kingdom of ancient Egypt (approx. 2000 to 1730 BC) . There are various buildings that date mainly to the Middle Kingdom and the Roman period and belong to the workers who once lived here. Some kind of fortress may have served administrative purposes. A whole series of rock inscriptions are historically important, all of which date to the Middle Kingdom and were left behind by various expeditions to Wadi el-Hudi.
