Elected to the Legislative Council in the Protectorate of Uganda in 1958
The election to the Legislative Council in the Protectorate of Uganda in 1958 was the first election of the Legislative Council of the Protectorate of Uganda.
The elections were boycotted by the largest and eponymous people in the country, the Ganda. The Ganda sought autonomy in their kingdom of Buganda , which existed as a protectorate within the colony of British Uganda, and demanded elections for their own regional parliament.
The result of the parliamentary elections was a victory for the Uganda National Congress , which won five of the ten - and therefore exactly 50 percent - of the seats in parliament.
