history

Kurt Neureiter, a trained actor and worker in the Böhler-Ybbstal works , was transferred from Kapfenberg to Böhlerwerk in 1949 . Together with Fritz Haselsteiner, the founding general assembly of the theater and cultural association “Waidhofner Volksbühne” took place on September 2, 1950 in the former Hotel Inführ in Waidhofen an der Ybbs . On November 11, 1950, came to the first performance with the farce " The Rape of the Sabine Women " by Franz and Paul von Schönthan in the hall of the hotel Inführ. In 1951 there was the first open-air performance (“The Pastor of Kirchfeld” by Ludwig Anzengruber ) in the Parkbad and in the summer of 1953, Shakespeare'sThe Taming of the Shrew ” was first moved to the Rothschild Castle in the statutory city . The performances at this historical location were given the name “Castle Courtyard Games” . They also played in the Hotel Inführ, in the Böhlersaal of the Böhlerwerke, in the parish hall of the parish, in the castle courtyard and on the upper town square. In 1975 a city hall was inaugurated under Mayor Erich Vetter. 2005 marked the 100th birthday of the club's founder, Fritz Haselsteiner. He wrote the piece "Die Blaue Mauritius", which premiered in 2005. On this occasion the Waidhofner Volksbühne issued a postage stamp (issue date: November 11, 2005). After a renovation in 2007, the city hall was renamed the Plenkersaal.

Game operation

For years, the direction has been directed by trained directors, the actors play unpaid. The Waidhofner Volksbühne pays for the education and training of its actors. Standard is a three-year training course for players and game leaders in St. Pölten (ATINÖ). Various special seminars (cabaret, make-up artist) are then attended. The Waidhofner Volksbühne has about 80 active members (actors and helpers). Regular game operations take place:

  • During Holy Week (every two years / only on even numbers) - a fairy tale for young and old - in the Plenkersaal
  • In July the “Schlosshofspiele” (approx. 12 performances) - classics in the Rothschild Castle
  • In November “Stadttheater im Plenkersaal” (approx. 6 performances) - preferably tabloid comedies
