The Waiohine River is a 35 km long river in the Wellington region of New Zealand on the North Island . It runs south from its source in the Tararua Range . After reaching the plain north of Lake Wairarapa , it swings to the southeast. From here the river splits into numerous arms as an intertwined river . Most of the water flows southeast of Greytown into the Ruamahanga River .
