Waiting For a Star to Fall is a 1988 song by Boy Meets Girl . The song was released on June 10, 1988 as a single . In Germany, the title made it to number 22. In January 1989 it reached number nine in the British charts . In the US , the success was even greater, with the single reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100 .
A new version of the song, released three years later, hit the charts again in the UK but only hit number 76.
The song was originally written for Whitney Houston but was rejected by her. Then they offered the song Belinda Carlisle , who recorded a demo of the song for her album Heaven on Earth . The demo recording was initially unpublished. It was not published on the Internet until years later .
Waiting for a Star to Fall was sampled in 2005 by the bands Cabin Crew , the Sunset Strippers , Mylo and other artists for their own songs.
