The Wakefield Reef is a reef of 800 m in diameter in the archipelago of Heard Island and McDonald Islands in the southern Indian Ocean . It is 3.5 km west-south-west of Cape Arkona off the south-west side of Heard .
The reef is recorded for the first time in an imprecise location on a map from the 1860s to 1870s of American seal hunters . In April 1910, the crew of HMS Wakefield , after which the reef is named, carried out a more detailed mapping.
