Walaricus

Walaricus , also Walarich, Valery , (* around 560, † around 620) was a figure of early monasticism in the Frankish Empire .

The founder of the Leuconay monastery came from Auvergne . Under the influence of the Irish missionary Columban of Luxeuil , he entered the Luxeuil monastery founded by him . In 613 he founded the Leuconay monastery on the Somme estuary, where he died around the year 620.

The place Leuconai was later renamed Saint-Valery-sur-Somme . There is also Saint-Valery-en-Caux, named after Walaricus .
