The Walchensee Museum in Urfeld am Walchensee

The Walchensee Museum was opened on July 21, 2008, the 150th birthday of Lovis Corinth in the extensively converted former Hotel Post in Urfeld am Walchensee . It is a project of the Friedhelm Oriwol Foundation and aims to present art, culture and history for the Kochelsee , Walchensee , Jachenau and Herzogstand areas .

A significant part of the exhibition is dedicated to Lovis Corinth. Currently, over 200 graphic works from his hand are on display in numerous rooms. He temporarily lived in his house in Urfeld from 1918 to 1925 and created the important Walchensee pictures.

In addition to works by other artists working on the Walchensee, the museum shows local history collections from 250 years in the areas of Kochelsee with Schlehdorf, Walchensee with the towns of Walchensee and Urfeld, Jachenau, Herzogstand, Kesselberg and Walchenseekraftwerk .

From the monastery Benediktbeuern u. a. also the chronicle of Father Karl Meichelbeck from 1750 is shown. The exhibits include chronicles, oil paintings, watercolors, pencil drawings, copper engravings, steel engravings, wood engravings, old books, old collectibles, historical postcards, construction plans, stocks, emergency money and much more.
