history

In 1935, the presence of a former loam near the moat between Wulfelade and Evensen gave the then mayor Dannenberg, the district master builder Hermann Röver and the teacher Hermann Hanker from Wulfelade the opportunity to plan an outdoor swimming pool for the community at this point. Mayor Dannenberg called a community assembly on February 20, 1935, which decided to build the bathing establishment. The district committee approved 500 Reichsmarks for the creation.

Citizens from Wulfelade and the then Reich Labor Service carried out the necessary work. For this purpose, the basin was excavated and supported on the walls with oak posts. Oak wood was also used to create the inlet canals from the moat that fed the large basin with water. So that the water could run into the basin by itself via the inlet, it was dammed by a weir in the ditch. Because the water level was not high enough on some days, a pump with a copper pipe was installed. The wooden changing rooms had a massive extension for the motor pump. The toilet was, as was customary, an outhouse and was located in the small forest.

In the bathing season, the teacher Hanker used the bath to give swimming lessons to the children from Wulfelade. There should be no more non-swimmers among his students. Back then, swimming cushions made of nettle cloth served as bathing and swimming aids . In addition to the residents of Wulfelad, citizens of the surrounding communities also visited the spa every summer until 1944.

However, the events of the war put an end to swimming in 1945. In 1946 all facilities were destroyed and the pump stolen. This initially meant the end of the bathing establishment. During this time, there was no financial means for a new start-up of the bathing establishment. Everything fell apart and the large basin became a biotope.

Waldbad today

The Waldbad has been privately run by an association since 1993. In 2001 a solar system was built to heat the water. On sunny days, pool temperatures over 20 ° C are reached. In 2007 the dilapidated toilet wagon was replaced by a new sanitary building.
