The forest chapel Maria Hilf in the district of Hamberg, a district of the community Neuhausen im Enzkreis , is located directly behind the Steinegg castle in the forest on an overhanging rock. The chapel was donated by Sebastian Forster in 1683 and rebuilt in 1739 by Karl Dietrich Anton von Gemmingen .

Legend

The legend about the creation of the forest chapel is as follows:

Once, in the Nine Years War the castle Steinegg was threatened by the enemy, the Castle Miss fled from the family of the Barons of Gemmingen-Steinegg in the nearby forest under an overhanging rock , and put in their distress and fear the vow that if she carried Mary protection were saved from the enemies Rotte, they wanted to build a chapel in honor of the Holy Virgin Mary on the protective rock . A spider spun the entrance to the hiding place with its network so that no one could suspect that someone was hidden under the rock. The lonely chapel is still today a silent witness of the pious way of thinking of those castle maids who had taken seriously the fulfillment of their vows.
