Haldensleber Roland - in the background the town hall

The Haldensleber Roland is the Roland statue of the city of Haldensleben .

It is located in front of the town hall and is the only rider Roland in Europe. This makes him the high point of creativity in Roland painting. Originally, the statue was also rotatable. It is a symbol of urban rights .

In 1419 the standing Roland figure was first mentioned in the town books of Haldensleben. There are reports that the figure initially stood in Hehlingen (now a part of Wolfsburg ) for a few years and then was kidnapped to Haldensleben. The figure later went under and was replaced by a stone mounted successor in 1528, possibly in connection with the market privilege of 1526. In 1927/28 the rider, which was badly stressed by the weather, was replaced by a true-to-original replica made of Baden limestone with a size of 2.40 m. The sculptor was a Schmidt from Halle. The original has since had its place in the city museum . The armor and beret of the statue are designed in the style of the Renaissance .

It is believed that the Magdeburg rider was once oriented. The direct model was probably more the contemporary depictions of Maximilian I.
