The Waldorf Upper and Middle School Bozen (WOB) has been a state-recognized general secondary school since 2009 with a technical, artistic, social and humanities focus on the basis of expanded Waldorf education . The canon of basic subjects corresponds to the art high school specializing in performing arts / visual arts . The trilingualism used is a central component of the lessons.

Mission statement

“Art is eternal, its forms change.” This quote from Rudolf Steiner, the founding father of Waldorf education, is also well suited as an introductory sentence to the efforts of students at the Waldorf Upper School in Bolzano.

The basis of Waldorf education is anthroposophy in the sense of Steiner. It is about learning that is not just about the intellect, but that is also based on an emotional and practical level. This puts the individual experience in the foreground in order to be able to perceive the world and oneself through learning. The well-known symbols of the recognized art high school “WOB” are therefore chosen accordingly: the heart, the hand and the head.

classes

The lesson table or the bundle of subjects of the WOB is based on the framework guidelines of the Education Office of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. Classes at the WOB take place daily from 8 a.m. to 3.40 p.m. For the 9th grade, lessons end at 2:40 p.m. This rule applies to all students on Fridays.

The monthly celebrations offer the students the chance to show themselves.

Internships: Internships are carried out at all Waldorf schools around the world, on the one hand to give students the opportunity to research a topic in a focused and in-depth manner and, on the other hand, to sound out the competencies and skills of the individual student. Taking into account the total number of hours provided for the individual subject, the students should work in a company for a certain period of time and thus gain an insight into a possible future professional world:

  • 9. WOB: Agricultural internship
  • 10. WOB: craft internship
  • 11. WOB: Social internship + international social or language internship (English / German or Italian)
  • 12. WOB: Work or study orientation internship

Theater: Creativity and independence are promoted through various theater projects in addition to sport, artistry, board games and music. Here the students can get involved, be it on stage in a chosen role or behind the scenes as technical staff and supporters.

Annual work: On the subject of a department, usually also on an interdisciplinary subject, what has been learned and new content are brought to an individual educational form through independent research and then presented in public in a presentation. It should combine intellectual, artistic and practical work as much as possible. The students are expected to come to a focal point of grasp of facts, to recognize causes and connections and to find solutions for the questions they have formulated.

Portfolio: As “workbooks”, the portfolios have long been an integral part of the documentation of visual and artistic development. The aim is to collect, document and reflect on one's own efforts, progress and achievements, including evidence of a competence-oriented development of pupils and Waldorf teacher students.

Every year the 12th class of the WOB travels to Morocco.

Community

Community is very important at the school. The strengthening of the group feeling and the common experience within the classes and school community is a central component of Waldorf education. Both during class and outside of regular school activities, students have various opportunities to find their position in the community, to make new friends or to deepen existing ones. Theater projects, monthly celebrations or workshops that are offered during school time and are partly integrated into the classroom are complemented by extracurricular events: trips and excursions, including to Morocco, Lisbon or Elba, offer children and young people the chance to meet themselves and each other to get to know personally.
