The Waldorf Foundation was established in 2001 as a dependent foundation of the Association of Independent Waldorf Schools . It is recognized as a non-profit organization. The purpose of the foundation is to promote Waldorf education and Waldorf schools .

Thanks to donations since its establishment, the foundation's assets have now grown from DM 50,000  to 7 million euros (as of June 2020). The dividends (230,000 euros in 2008) are mainly used for teacher training and educational projects.
