The forest lake in Gifhorn-Winkel was excavated in the 1970s when the neighboring B 4 was being built . The lake was used as a bathing lake until the 1990s. In 1998 the lake , which had previously been leased by the Angler-Sportverein Gifhorn (ASV) eV, was purchased by the city of Gifhorn and became the property of the Angler-Sportverein. Since then the lake has been used exclusively for fishing.

The lake has an area of ​​4.5 hectares and is 10 meters deep. It is located in a nature reserve .
