The Heidesee is a two-hectare Schlattsee in Lower Saxony that was formed during the Ice Age . It is located in a wooded area on the B 188 in Gifhorn . The area around the Heidesee, which was placed under landscape protection as early as 1938, is the oldest landscape protection area in the Gifhorn district .

The shallow lake has no inflow and has coffee-colored water due to the boggy subsoil. The water level results from the seeping rainwater. The moor was never used as a bathing lake, but there was a pedal boat rental . The water hardly needs any maintenance. In the drought summers of 2018 and 2019, the water fell largely dry and the former water surface became weed.
The lake and its surroundings have been a popular local recreation area since the 1930s . There was also a spa house, an excursion restaurant with a restaurant and a hotel. The plants were up for a foreclosure auction in July 2012, but this did not take place due to a lack of interested parties. In December 2012 the lake and facilities were sold to a new operator. On October 21, 2013 the hotel was reopened as the Morada Hotel Heidesee Gifhorn . In 2018 there were signs of a sale of the excursion restaurant, which had been fallow since 2011, without any changes in the situation until today (2020).
