history

The Stadtsparkasse Gifhorn was founded in 1847, and in 1866 the savings, loan and advance fund in Wittingen . In 1917, the Stadtsparkasse Gifhorn set up its first external acceptance points in Fallersleben and some villages in what was then the Gifhorn district. On September 9, 1921 the newly founded Kreissparkasse Gifhorn started its business operations. In 1934 the Kreissparkasse Wittingen, whose business area was the Isenhagen district , which was dissolved in 1932 , and the Stadtsparkasse Gifhorn were transferred to the Kreissparkasse Gifhorn. In 1935 the bank building that still exists today was opened on Schloßplatz in Gifhorn.

The Kreissparkasse Gifhorn was the first foreign bank to settle in the town of KdF-Wagen near Fallersleben , which was founded on July 1, 1938 . As early as November 18, 1938, she opened an office in the town, which was still under construction, which until 1945 was in a wooden barracks on Schachtweg, which had since been demolished. The first current account was opened for Günther Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg , the owner of Wolfsburg Castle at the time , on the opening day .
