Neuhaus is a district of the Lower Saxony city of Wolfsburg . It was named after Neuhaus Castle , whose landmark it is.

geography

Neuhaus is located in the far east of Wolfsburg, right on the border with the Danndorf community ( Helmstedt district ). The district is now a popular residential area because it is very quiet.

history

The Neuhaus settlement was first mentioned in 1372 as Nyehus in connection with Neuhaus Castle. It was originally a Gutsweiler with farm buildings around the castle that belonged to a domain for centuries .

In the Merian description of 1654 it says about Neuhaus Castle, which at that time the place mainly consisted of:

“This is a prince. Braunschweigisch Ampthauß, located almost in the middle of the Hartze. This house is walled up high on a stone rock and has sturdy towers on both corners and there is a fairly large pond in front of the house, so it is filled with carpenters ”.

Neuhaus did not develop as a community until the 20th century. After the domain was dissolved, eleven new farms were established in 1936, while the castle became a sports school . In 1963 the bypass road was built.

Incorporations

As part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on July 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Neuhaus, which comes from the Helmstedt district , was incorporated into the city of Wolfsburg in accordance with the Wolfsburg Act .

coat of arms

The Neuhaus municipal coat of arms was designed by the local community. It was drawn by the heraldist and coat of arms painter Gustav Völker , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region . The coat of arms was decided on April 5, 1955 by the council of the then Neuhaus municipality, since July 1, 1972 a district of Wolfsburg, and approved on July 11, 1955 by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior .

Blazon : “In red a broadly roofed silver tower , on top with a small roofed bell cagein which two golden bells hang, underneath covered with a red shield , in which two right- facinggolden lions step ontop of each other. A wall adjoinsthe tower on both sides, with a staircase and an open gate at the front. "
Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms is actually more of a building view than a heraldic symbol and represents Neuhaus Castle, which was built by Duke Magnus and the city of Braunschweig before 1372 and which the dukes pledged to various families after 1423. That is why the shield of the sovereign builder is attached as an additional sign.
