Almke is a district in the south of the city of Wolfsburg .

geography

The village is located in an agricultural area in the Hasenwinkel , part of the Elmvorland . The Hasenwinkel joins the Grevenland to the southeast . The three northernmost places in this landscape include Heiligendorf , Neindorf and Almke, all of which are now in the Wolfsburg urban area.

Neindorf in the south, Hehlingen in the north and Volkmarsdorf in the east are neighboring villages of Almke .

history

The Halberstadt diocese is the first historically tangible landlord of Almke to be traced. In the 14th century Almke was officially named as Allenbeke , whereby beke refers to the stream that flows east of the village.

On July 1, 1972, Almke, which comes from the Gifhorn district , was incorporated into the city of Wolfsburg in accordance with the Wolfsburg Law .

  • Almke has an Evangelical Lutheran chapel, it is located around 116 meters above sea level and is therefore the highest church in Wolfsburg. The small half-timbered chapel, which was mentioned in 1534, is in the center of the village. Its bell tower can be found as a symbol in the Almker coat of arms. In 1818 Conrad Wilhelm Hase planned a new chapel for Almke. However, this was never built.
  • The youth campground opened in 1990 on the northern edge of the village is operated together with the outdoor pool by the Wolfsburg City Youth Association. In 2005, the Association of Boy Scouts organized its national camp here. In order to provide enough space for the around 5000 participants, 14 hectares of arable land were leased from the city of Wolfsburg  .
