The Schandelah – Oebisfelde railway line was a branch line almost 30 kilometers long in the east of what is now Lower Saxony . The Oebisfelde Station is now one of Sachsen-Anhalt .

The connection was opened on October 1, 1902 by the Prussian State Railways to develop the rural region. It connected its catchment area via the Braunschweig – Magdeburg railway with Braunschweig , at the northeast end it connected to the Berlin-Lehrter Railway .

In 1945 the railway line was divided by the inner-German border shortly before its eastern terminus in Oebisfelde . Traffic ceased east of Velpke . In 1953, the route traveled was extended again almost three kilometers towards the border and an additional stop was set up in Grafhorst , which replaced the one on the Wittingen – Oebisfelde railway line, which was also closed .

This was not yet satisfactory, so in 1955 a connecting curve was placed on the main line to Wolfsburg . Grafhorst finally lost its rail connection. The Bundesbahn temporarily offered a ring service from Braunschweig via Schandelah , Velpke, Wolfsburg and the Schuntertalbahn back to Braunschweig.

Even this could not increase the demand to such an extent that the Federal Railroad would have kept the route. On September 29, 1975, passenger traffic was given up. In freight transport, the sugar factory in Klein Twülpstedt was last served from the north until the end of 1987 . On December 31, 1987, freight traffic between Schandelah and Klein Twülpstedt, and on May 31, 1992, between the Grafhorst branch and Klein Twülpstedt was officially suspended.

After reunification, discussions were held at times about connecting the high-speed line from Hanover to Berlin with a branch via Velpke to Braunschweig, which would have partially used the old line. Instead, the city of Wolfsburg endorsed the Weddeler Loop , which enables an ICE stop in Wolfsburg and a connection to freight traffic in the direction of Braunschweig, and prevailed.
