history
In 1238 the place is mentioned in a document as Steinbeke . In 1332 the name is given as Stembeke and in this century a von Steimke family owned fiefs here . Nordsteimke is not mentioned until 1440. The von Mahrenholtz family appeared as noble landowners in the village in 1303 . During the Thirty Years War, Franz Julius von Mahrenholtz asked the city of Braunschweig for help with looting. He could not hold the manor , which then passed to Frantz Julius von dem Knesebeck . In 1654, Matthäus Merian described Nordsteimke as follows:
- The Hauß Nord-Steimke / is in the Principality of Braunschweig Wolfenbüttel / occupies about half a mile away from Drömling / formerly only terrible farms were supposed to have been here / afterwards it came to the von Marenholtz / who also bawled the house; now this property is owned by the prince. Braunschweigisch Hoff / Marschalck / Frantz Julius von dem Knesebeck
Heinrich Büssing , the pioneer of truck and bus construction and founder of the later Büssing AG , was born in the village in 1843 . The house where he was born is the former village smithy, which was converted into the Heinrich-Büssing-Haus Museum in 1988 . There he learned the blacksmith's trade from his father.
In 1968 a large shopping center was built on the outskirts, today's Real -Markt.
On July 1, 1972, Nordsteimke, which comes from the Helmstedt district , was incorporated into the city of Wolfsburg in accordance with the Wolfsburg Law .
From 2019 the large new development area "Sonnenkamp" will be built in the northeast of the district.
politics
Nordsteimke and the neighboring district of Barnstorf form the village of Barnstorf-Nordsteimke and are represented by a local council. Local mayor is Hans-Georg Bachmann ( SPD ) (as of December 2016).
